On Coming Alive is an excellent resource for those of us that are grieving. This quote is one of my favorites that I have come across on the site, among many other helpful articles on their website and Facebook page.
I have found in the countless books and articles that I have read, throughout this grueling journey of grief I have been handed, in addition to the counseling that I receive three times per week, that there is one underlying theme. Healing requires action. Every. Single. Day.
That action can be as small as just getting out of the bed or going outside to soak in the sunshine for ten minutes, or it can be a larger action such as calling up a friend and asking her to meet you for coffee. Trust me, this is no small feat. I have been there. I have those days where just getting out of the bed is a monumental task. I have those days where all I want to do is cry and scream at God and ask him why. Why us? Why our child? I know I will not find the answer to my questions this side of heaven, but in that desperate moment it is all I can think about.
However, when I have my "brave days", when I get up out of bed, get dressed and call a friend, even just to talk on the phone, it truly makes a difference. So if you are grieving a loved one, a relative or a close friend, please remember this quote. Write it down somewhere and put it on a stickie to post on a frame by your bedside table. You will be amazed at what you can accomplish with just one step. I promise.
