A couple more sledding photos of Riley from the winter of 2015, one of which Rob is giving him a good boost down the hill in our backyard!
Snow was one of Riley's favorite things for sure! His teacher once told him if he wore his pajamas inside out it would snow the next day and, sure enough, he came down the stairs that night with his pajamas on inside out full of enthusiasm for what the next morning would bring! #rileysrainbows #rememberingriley#snowydaymemories
This photo is from a snowy day in February 2015. Riley would get so excited the second he saw a snowflake outside! I even remember a teacher telling him that if he wore his pajamas inside out to bed that it would snow the next day. Of course, he did that! Riley loved to sled down the huge hill near our house, build snow forts and have snowball fights, as any young boy his age would.
I am not a big snow person, or cold weather person at all for that matter, but I wanted to take some photos of Riley in the snow and this turned out to be one of my favorites. I am so glad that I took so many photos and videos of our sweet boy. They are precious memories that we can hold onto forever. #rileysrainbows #rememberingriley #snowydaymemories
As Rob was packing up Riley’s room for the move, a chore that I had to leave for him because I could not handle it emotionally, he came across Riley’s soccer jersey from when he played for the YMCA team in kindergarten. Riley would always want to play goalie! It brought back so many special memories of him playing on his team, the "Spiders". We would attend the games and practices, and actually Rob was the Assistant Coach for the team!
This was by far one of the hardest things Rob had to do, but as he shared what he found with me and we were looking at his jersey number we realized that ten was the age that Riley passed away. This was just another reminder that Riley is with us as we make this extremely difficult journey and very emotional move. #rememberingriley #rileysrainbows #foreverten —
This photo was taken just about this time two years ago, just a few months before we would suddenly and unexpectedly lose Riley. Riley had so much fun fishing with Rob and his Uncle Mike, Rob's brother, who has now joined Riley in God's Kingdom.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed boating, hunting, and traveling to his sanctuary in Georgia. Mike courageously fought cancer over the past 14 years, while living life on his terms and chasing adventure.
Professionally, Mike started at the Fort Myers Beach Fire Department as a firefighter, then a paramedic and eventually rose to the position of Battalion Chief during the past 19 years. He was a unbelievably brave man, caring brother and son, loving husband and amazing brother-in-law.
We miss and love both of them so much! Knowing those two, I am sure they have found all of the best fishing spots in heaven together. #rileysrainbows #rememberingriley #fishingbuddies
This photo is from Riley's tenth birthday party in February of 2016. The picture was taken just two months before our sweet boy passed away. The adorable friend beside him is one of his "besties" and "sweet-tart". They were super close and often played Star Wars together, met up at the pool and he even told me several times that he was going to marry her!
Little did we know at the time that this would be the last birthday party we would ever be able to throw for him. Birthdays for him were a big deal in our house and this was a special one because he was in the double digits! I remember when we were talking to him about turning ten he asked Rob and I if his voice would change now!
I will never forget that night. He had all of his friends there, pizzas (his favorite), two cookie cakes and carte blanche of video games at his favorite local video game store. There were enough big screens and video platforms (Xbox, Wii, PS3, etc.) plus different individual games there that no one was bored or even had to wait to play a game. They all nicely switched around so that everyone had a chance to play the game they wanted to play.
After the party was over, we had cleaned up and all of the kids were exhausted and coming down from their sugar high from the cookie cakes, we started on our way home. In the car on the way home we were asking him about the party and if he enjoyed it. He told us it was the best birthday party he had ever had. I am so glad that we threw him that special party that he enjoyed so much with all of his friend attending. Even though it was his last, it was our favorite party too. #rileysrainbows #rememberingriley
In conjunction with Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar, Riley’s Rainbows was able to deliver over 600 gifts to local children’s hospitals this year! These Christmas gifts were given to children spending their Christmas day at the following hospitals in our area: Wake Med Children’s Hospital, UNC Children’s Hospital, Duke Children’s Hospital and the James and Connie Maynard Children’s Hospital.
We were so happy to help bring some holiday joy to these precious children and their families on Christmas day this year. We hope to collect even more toys in 2018 and are so thankful everyone who participated in donating toys this year!
We are overjoyed to honor Riley in this very special way and owe a huge thank you
to Bad Daddy's Burger Bar for all of their help during our second annual Holiday Toy
Drive! Blessings and a Happy New Year to all! #rileysrainbows #baddaddysburgerbar #toydrive2017 #rememberingriley #randomactsforriley
